How do I get my mother set up for home health service?

Where do I start, and what information do I need?

wow, I'm sorry to hear! Where are you living? You can look into care home agencies. If you are in South Florida there is a good company my family uses at afamilymemberhomecare and you can call for free advice.

She had a massive stroke, that paralyzed her left side, she also has kidney failure and recieves dialysis three times weekly, monday, wednesday, and friday that shes recieves transport to and from. She needs help bathing, dressing, and she needs her meals cooked/served. She cannot walk, but she talks clearly and can hold conversations. In a nutshell she is completely paralyzed on the left side and recieves dialysis due to kidney failure. Not sure how much information that is and its kind of redundant lol :) but ........

I think we need more information on the heath condition of your Mom to answer your question properly. At first, I hired professional CG 3x a week and that turned out to be a nightmare. At that time Mom just needed a "baby sitter" when I had to go out and to upkeep household stuffs. She had alzheinmers and had cancer colon surgery which was successful. But the first one was incompetant, the second one, one of the CG was mean to me, was mean and abused Mom, and I suspected her of stealing from us. Then I remembered that my church had a woman there who ran her own organization then I hired her girls. They were a God send. Compassionate, loving, caring, selfless, prayerful, dependable--AND they were much cheaper than the other orgs. Then as time moved on, Mom needed more help so in addition to them, we put Mom on in-home hospice care. A nurse comes and evaluates Mom, comes whenever we call them, but made a regular weekly visit, a doctor came and evaluated Mom and me and prescribed all the meds, a bather would come 3x a week. They were wonderful. But not all hospice orgs are as wonderful as these people were. They were from St. Francis Health Care Systems in Hawaii. They are the top of the line the best one in Hawaii. They took great care of Mom when they were here. Then after a while, Mom took a turn for the worse and then we had to place her in hospice full time. But I hope this answers your questions about home health services. There are a lot of then out there except just hospice, you just have to do your homework. You cannot do it alone, its impossible. CG is the hardest job in the world as you already know. Get your states senior health care booklet--I believe it may come from your state government or federal government web site. They have all the listings of home health care orgs in your state according to your own Mom's health care needs. Hope this helps.
