What should you do when you are involved in a sexual harassment case by the family members of the client you take care of?

I take care of a 99 yr old women, I have been with her for 6 years working 24/7 6 days a week, my problem is when her son calls and makes sexual remarks, and lude comments. He is 72, I have mentioned it to his sister who is 69 and she has talked to hime about it, I also have mentioned to his wife and I told her that I find his comments disrespectful, she then tells me hes just blowing hot steam. I tell my lady and she laughs in a condensending way and thinks its funny, today I just blew up after he called and I told my lady that it wasn't funny and that I will report him to the police next time. help what do i do?

QUIT NOW! surely with your years of being caretaker, there are many out there who would love to have you,,,,, but don't tell them where you will be or he will still call you. good luck to you. you deserve someplace better.

You are right. The comments are disrespectful and inappropriate. Might they also be a sign of decline and behavioral issues? I guess we don't know if he has done this all his life or he is recently losing inhibitions, perhaps to early stage dementia

But whether he is a creep or a sick man, why are you on the phone with him? You've reported his behavior to persons who may need to know about it and that should end it for you. If he calls and says, "May I speak to Mother?" give her the phone. If he calls and starts out with inappropriate comments, hang up. Do this consistently. Maybe he likes to get a rise out of you. Remain calm. Do not engage in conversation. Just hang up.

Good grief, just consider the source. Then hang up the phone.

Legally, it is only considered sexual harrassment if the person doing the harrassing has some sort of authority over you and is using sexual language or behavior in a way that threatens your position as a paid employee. If he does not pay you for your work, then he has no authority over you, and therefore cannot threaten your position. It is crude behavior and there is no law against crude behavior.

It's funny how even when an adult kid is 72 stinkin years old, his mommy still sticks up for him!! What a crock. Tell his mommy that unless he puts a cork in his dirty old man mouth, that you'll be quitting. You've been working for them for long enough that they will probably hate to lose your services, so you've got leverage. But even if his 99 year old mommy still sticks up for her 'steamy pervert of a son' then quit. And tell them you want a glowing recommendation or you WILL talk to the police or anyone who will listen to you.
