Mom’s been sundowning pretty hard for the last couple of weeks then suddenly this morning after moving her to her recliner she started having trouble moving her feet and began speaking in a quiet small voice. She hasn’t raised her voice all day and now she’s sleeping quietly in bed. Frankly, it’s creeping me out! I don’t know what to do with the quiet anymore.

My mother did the same thing. She told me once, “When I look in a mirror, I don’t recognize myself.” It was like she suddenly had a lucid few moments and realized what she was going through and what she had become. It was one of the saddest moments of my life; hearing her say that.

Gremlin, how is mom doing now? Sometimes my mom would go quiet. For her this seemed to be when she had no idea where she was, who I was and even who she was. One time I remember her looking in a mirror, she did not understand it was a mirror, and who was that woman with the white hair. She had become obviously upset, which showed by her just shutting down. Did not want anyone to know how confused she was. Such a very strange disease.
