My father lives alone in an assisted living facility that he once shared with my mother who passed away 2 years ago, the end result of a debilitating stroke suffered 10 years earlier. He took care of her for several years after the stroke, and continued to, even in assisted living. They had been married 65 years and he misses her terribly. He is very smart and computer savvy, but is declining, suffering the effects of vascular dementia for many years. He has been receiving hospice care for several months as his strength and will to live go up and down. He remains an avid reader and i'm looking for suggestions for reading materials for someone like him to occupy his mind and provide reflections on letting go, on a life well lived. He has us 4 children, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who he adores. Thank you.

Thank you Carol. I will definitely check out the book. Thinking that it might be something that all adults in my family and my father could read and share thoughts...we will see. My father is failing in his judgement and sensibilities but sometimes he becomes crystal clear. I like those times.

How wonderful that your father has done so well! It sounds like losing your mother has taken a toll, which is sad but to be expected.
You and he seem to understand that end of his journey is near. One book that I thought was wonderful is "The Four Things That Matter Most" by Ira Byrock. I've reviewed the book and recommended it to many people. It should be available on Amazon.
Take care,
Carol
