The doctor said the marks around my mom's tailbone from from pressure.

He said she must move. She sleeps in her bed from 8pm to 10am and will only sleep on her back. Is there something I can put in her bed to reduce the pressure given that she barely moves at night?

During the day I shift her around to different chairs but she sleeps most of the time. Is there something else for the day?

She does not have an open wound. I’ve been reading a lot and it could also be caused by urine in her depends. Would a barrier cream be a good idea?

Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge.

A ROHO seat cushion is worth every penny.

My mom always preferred to sleep on her side and developed a pressure spot on her hip, no open sore just a stage one red spot. I was surprised at how many weeks of staying off that side it took for the area to return to normal but it makes sense since pressure sores are like icebergs, the damage is mostly hidden below in the deeper tissues. Unless you and she are willing to change her sleep habits and also reposition her several times through the night an alternating pressure mattress or overlay is probably well worth it too.

dear OP!

i hope your mother and you are ok.

someone i know had the same problem. (pressure sore on tailbone area).

in this case, it was not caused by urine in depends. the person isn’t incontinent.

the person also slept a lot in bed, on the back. during the day, sitting.
pailful around the pressure sore.

solution?
the caregivers, for months, put creams + special bandages, and bit by bit, the sore became smaller and smaller. this took about 6 months. finally, the sore totally disappeared.

——
in your case, if the sore is also being made worse by urine/wet adult diaper…
poor her :(.

1 dramatic solution, is a catheter. then at least there’s no incontinence problem.

but —
catheters of course also come with problems: prone to urine infection…and generally, it’s better/healthier to urinate naturally (no catheter). and sometimes catheters are painful (especially if you must sit in a wheelchair).

——
in any case:
there are creams + bandages against sores.
you must keep the pressure sore dry (no urine/wetness around there).

hug!!!

bundle of joy :)

An alternating air pressure mattress might be a good solution.

Pressure sores are pretty terrible. Prevention is best. My mom has had this issue. I bought two cushions designed to prevent pressure sores. One went in her wheelchair and the other in her recliner where she sleeps. There’s also a cream we use when necessary. The mattress toppers that circulate air are also worth looking into.

Confusia see if you can get a consult with an occupational therapist, they should be able to assess your needs and make suggestions :)
