85-year-old mom going to bathroom with bidet and stays in bathroom up to 45 minutes

You should never leave her sitting on the toilet that long it isn't safe for her. I talked to my Mom's doctor about it and she gets 5 minutes then comes out and she can try again later.

Her dementia is likely then far enough progressed that she requires monitoring during toileting.

Your mom needs supervision IN the bathroom.
It may seem odd to begin with but she will get used to it.
She may need help and if she is by herself you have no idea if she needs help.
she should also be on a bathroom "schedule" every 2 hours get her up and into the bathroom.
You can make it part of "mom we are going to have lunch now, lets get you to the bathroom first." then later "Mom let's go get the mail but before we walk out lets go to the bathroom" later..."Mom I need help with dinner but let's make a pit stop first"
