Repeating the same things.

What can you do with someone who repeats the same 3 things over and over to the point where it is driving you crazy?

Ask them an open ended question (not yes or no). This will break the loop/

That's a dementia loop and the only way to break one of those is to ignore it. Pay no attention whatsoever.

If it's the same question over and over again, you answer two or three times and then no more. You stop answering and ignore it.

At some point the person will lose interest and stop repeating and move onto something else. Re-direction and distraction can work too. Sometimes a small thing like a snack can break a dementia loop. Sometimes it's more serious and requires medicating if the person is getting agitated.

Are the things something he or she is anxious about? If so you might want to ask the doctor to prescribe some anxiety medication.

This is called looping. How I do it, I will offer a solution to the question and then tell them I am going to followup on their request. Then redirect.

1. Answer the question using different words or sentences.
2. Change the subject
3. Ask them a question
4. Bring up something they can talk about like where they lived, where they went to school, would you like a snack.

Yes to everything Grandma1954 suggested.

I also just didn't respond to it after the first time. I would sometimes just get up and move to another room.

Maybe it is time for your LO to get checked for a UTI? Or medication for depression, anxiety, agitation? A person with cognitive impairment can no longer get themselves to a contented or peaceful state of mind. Meds are merciful.

Redirect the question.
Change the subject
Give the person some task to do to turn their attention away from their questions.
You can (if it is safe)
Leave the room for a bit.
