My father has just been admitted to the ICU outside of our city. I need help getting a hotel room close to the hospital. Any ideas?

Its Saturday and a holiday weekend. So case managers etc aren't here at hospital. Any ideas ?

Recently I have stayed twice at hotels near a hospital or a medical office where I was being treated or seeing a doctor. (This was for logistical/transportation reasons). In each case, I called the reception at these medical places and both were able to give me names of nearby hotels which gave discounts -- quite hefty discounts -- to people who were patients at nearby medical institutions. (I'm assuming this would also apply to someone in your case). I would suggest you do the same. I was only staying one day in the hotel each time, but if you are staying a longer time, after they give you the daily "hospital/medical rate," ask if they also have a weekly rate for example. Oh, and nowadays (based on my recent experiences) you may have to ask for "amenities" that used to be automatic, like: a fridge, a microwave, a coffee pot, etc. Good luck.

I have never heard that a hospital is required to help you get a hotel room. I just put in the address of our local hospital with "hotels nearby" and got 3 within 15 min of the hospital. Another local one has an hotel next door.

The hospital will give you a voucher or they usually have places like Ronald McDonald house or guest house.
Demand it! Ask as many people as you need to untill you get one.

Janineb110, it is my understanding that the Ronald McDonald House is only for parents who have a young child in the hospital.

I would check with the hospital re visiting protocol both from the standpoint of there being a bit of a surge in covid and from the standpoint of ICU protocol. I don't know how far away your father is, or if this involves air travel, also, but yes, this would be quite expensive. I honestly have no idea if your father did not live somewhere where you can actually stay at his place while he is hospitalized. I sure wish you the best.

Most hospitals do allow one person to be in the ICU with the patient, so perhaps you can sleep in the chair there. You can also stay in his room when he gets out of ICU and sleep in the recliner there as well if needed.
Hoping everything works out for you and your father.

Do they allow a family member to stay in the icu room with him?

Usually in ICU visitors are only allowed in certain times of the day and only for so long.
