Searching for an in-patient rehab center or appropriate care facility for my mother-in-law who is wheelchair bound and has Humana Gold health insurance. Any advice?

She is to the point where her legs are unusable, she is over 200 pounds, under 5ft and I'm having a hard time trying to get her in and out of of shower and bath and caring for her. I'm afraid one of us is going to seriously hurt ourselves. I'm trying to get her admitted to an in patient rehab center and and hitting the wall every option I try. She has Humana gold for insurance and and all help would be much appreciated.

As said Rehab usually follows a hospital stay. You just don't go into Rehab because you feel you need to. Call her doctor to get an order for physical therapy. Then you will need to find out if her health insurance will cover it.

I am 5ft and I cannot imagine weighing 200#. 60 yrs is not old. She needs to get that weight off. That could be part of the problem her legs can no longer support her weight.

Yes, call her doctor and ask for an evaluation for in-home physical therapy.

In-patient rehab is for post hospitalization; if she ends up admitted for a few days, she might be approved for in-patien rehab then.

Call your local Area Agency on Aging and ask for a "needs assessment". They will be able to advise on equipment that will make transfers and bathing easier.

You should reach out to her Dr. Let them know HER needs, and struggles. Ask for direction and help. Contact your county office for aged and disabilities for direction, solutions.

sounds like time for placement where there is skilled staffing…
