Advice on directing a social security check to the nursing home?

With whom should I speak about having social security check go directly to the nursing home? Social worker? Finance office? And will the nursing home pay supplemental insurance out of the Check?

The business manager at my mom’s NH handled this for us

You need to talk to the Finance Dept. I suggest, you allow them to become payee. That way if there is any problem after the LO passes, the NH has to handle SS.

If your LO is on Medicaid, a supplimental may not be needed. But, it has been explained on this forum that some states require a supplimental and allow it to be taken out of the SS. This is a question for the Finance dept or your LOs Medicaid caseworker. Be aware, you are not obligated to pay for the supplimental. If the State requires it they have to cover the premium somehow. Thru SS or Medicaid. Family is not responsible.

Can you please give more details:

- is this for you or someone for whom you are FPoA? Or legal guardian?
- is this person a new Medicaid recipient?
