If the person entering a NH has Medicaid covering their care, then the POA or person in charge of her acct that SS goes into, should be sending a check from day one. There is probably a balance due if this hasn't been paid. You need to call the NH billing department.

For me, I applied for Medicaid in April and signed paperwork to admit Mom to a NH May 1st. I also allowed the NH to become payee for Moms SS and pension in April. I then gave the NH a check for 2 months of private care (May and June) deducting the amt of 2 months of SS because, looking at Moms statements, she received no SS for May or months following.

If private pay, they will not ask for SS.

Do not count on the NH calling you especially if they have no contact info. You need to call them.
