When my husband doesn't know me, are there things I can do to snap him out of it?

I used the phone today, and it worked when he saw my name.

Can you make a photo album that has pictures of you both together in your youth and progressing up to current time? If you have kids and he still remembers them, pics of all of you together may be helpful.

What about taking a nice current picture of you and your husband together, enlarge it, frame it, put both your names on it, and put it where he can see it daily?

He will be reminded constantly of what you look like and that you are his wife and what your name is, so that he can recognize you when he sees you. If later on he forgets that you are his wife, he might still know that you are someone he knows and that you know him.

Gosh! It is sad when your husband forgets who you are.

He won't necessarily recognize himself, is the trouble; but this is certainly worth a try.

If you use a novel cue, as you did today, and it works, that’s great.

If he has dementia, the same cue may not work the next time you use it.

Cognitive loss isn’t something you can snap out of. Using cues like pictures and vocabulary cards and familiar photos can still be good ways for you and your husband to interact though.
