Mother with Medicare is in an SNF after hospital stay totaling 3 weeks due to Covid. She caught pneumonia & was bedridden. SNF wants to discharge her before even 20 days, not even being able to walk.
What are the plans for after 20 days? Will she return to your home?

I realize that you have been her caregiver, but are you still going to be able to do it now that she needs a higher level?
It's a profit calculation for them. They have policies to maximize their chances of getting paid. Appeal it. You'll probably loose the first one. Appeal again. You'll probably loose that one too. Appeal a third time. Here's where you might have a chance. The first two appeals are by other for profit corporations. Starting with that third appeal, it's with the government. It's ridiculous how little the SNF and the appeal contractors know about the law. It's sad how little the ombudsmen can know about it. Once you hit the government people though, they know it. It's not without it's risks. Since if you do lose in the end, there will be financial responsibility. Read up on the law and read up on medicare appeals and see what the situation is.

Now is the time to let them know, in no uncertain terms, you are not able to provide the care she needs.
