If you hire privately, be sure to have a written contract. Consult with an accountant and/or elder law/estate planning attorney for best practices to make sure you have yourselves protected. If you have a Nextdoor.com forum for your area, this is an excellent source of reviews, recommendations and referrals from your actual local neighbors, and it is not anonymous. I use it all the time when seeking opinions on services.
