I moved my mom with dementia in with me 4 months ago. I am her only family and am single. Caregivers are quitting and I’m overwhelmed.

She has become aggressive and delirious. She supposedly smacked the caregiver on the arm last night and now the agency has canceled contract. I have another person that comes 3 days a week but otherwise I’m stuck here. I’m so overwhelmed I can’t think straight. Trying to find nursing home but they want to know about behaviors. I am POA but not guardian. She says she won’t leave and says this is her house. What do I do? I did this because we never got along and I wanted this chance if only for a short while to bond and try to make memories. She is furious everyday when I leave after caregivers arrive which causes the bad behavior. She says it’s my job to sit with her 24/7. Help!

You need to get Mom to a neurologist. There are meds for aggressive behaviour. Check for UTI.

Instead of wallowing in it 😊

Not a sudden change but getting worse. She always has UTI. Got letter from her doc today that he’s quitting. Have appt at end of month with center for healthy aging but I might not survive that long. On transport to ER, they might admit for psych evaluation but need medical reason to admit otherwise and then I could get her transferred to NH as I understand. Great suggestions though that help me focus on resolution and I do appreciate you for that!

IF this is a sudden change in her mental status, you need to get her tested for a UTI rIght away.

Have you spoken to her doc about her suddenly aggressive behavior?

Have you consIdered calling 911 and askIng for transport to the ER as she is a danger to others?
