What has your experience been with Atria?

My mom was in a Florida Atria facility for a few months before Covid. When it hit, I took her out to live with me with the idea she’d return once it was safe to do so. She will be getting her vaccine this month and we are planning her return.

Having just read a poster’s question about her mom’s ALF being bought out and rent and services increasing and reading negative comments about the big chains in response, specifically Brookdale, I am wondering how people feel about Atria? Our experience was quite good during the six months she was there. But the negative comments about the for-profit chains have me worried. (She is not in as good shape as when she left and likely will need more services than she previously did.) Any input is appreciated. Many thanks!

We have just moved my Mom in to the Atria Senior Living in Queens, NY. It has not started out to well. She has been in there 6 days and I have not got one phone call from anyone. I was told that they would be in touch with me and giving me updates. She is in her mid-late stage of Alzheimer's. She does not communicate too well. I am sure not every Atria is the same. But the one we have my Mom in needs to learn to communicate better. Good Luck.

Their annual rate hikes were extreme. When my mother entered one we were in a hurry as we were given short notice that she was being released after a fall. We were about to welcome our first grandchild in another state and had promised to go and help. It was also close to my home at the time.

Brookdale has changed. I looked into a Brookdale facility. Beautiful building but from what I heard, corporate was making substantial changes from the way it was run earlier.

Wish that I could help with the other one. Don’t know about it.

Best wishes to you and your family.

My mom was in an Attia Independent Living facility in Westchester, NY. Nice place, good staff. This was 2011-2013.

However, I have heard less good stories about some of their other sites.

You may want to weigh a good LTC facility over an AL if Mom has declines. ALs are just that, they assist. There comes a point that the needs of the resident is more than the care an AL can provide.

Agree. I have learned so much here and now would want a facility that might eventually accept Medicaid.

You should be able to look up your state's ratings on nursing homes. Try this website:
