My step father cannot take care of my mom financially or physically. He does not have money. What can we do?

My step father has gone bankrupt using his own money to hire caregivers. He is emotionally not well. I care for my disabled son, and other child and husband. I don't know what to do. I have no funds to help either.

He needs to be applying for Medicaid ASAP, and get a social worker involved to help find a facility to place mom in. Just make sure that someone has mom's medical and durable power of attorney, and if they don't, and mom still has her mental capacity, get that done ASAP as well. You can call your local Senior Services or Council on Aging too, and they can better assist you. There's lots of help out there, so don't be afraid to ask for it.

You need to contact a social worker from the State to assess the situation. Possibly mom may need to go to a nursing facility paid by Medicaid, or possibly in home care will be provided, covered under Medicaid.
