My friend signed herself out of the nursing home. Now they said she can't get her mental health medication. Is that true?

She left the nursing home because of her fear of the coronavirus.

Your profile says that your friend was in Assisted Living...which is it, AL or NH?

She left because if fear of COVID and although she was leaving, they would not give her the remainder of her psych meds. Do you think perhaps they were afraid she would misuse them? Sell them? OD? Is she suicidal?

Is someone her guardian?

How did she come to be in AL? What are her care needs?

Sorry, "she couldn't get her mental health medication" Meaning, they could not order it? You are giving us 2 different reasons for her leaving.

She is probably on an DEA controlled substance. This means she is only allowed to get a prescription for them every 30/31 days. If you try to reorder within the 30/31 days you won't be able to get them. Or, her doctor would not prescribe it because she hadn't seen him. You need to see a Dr on a regular basis to be prescribed DEA controlled meds. My state its every six months. The doctor associated with the NH is probably a GP and may feel he isn't qualified to prescribe the med.

You have that you friend is a 27 yr old. Is that really your age? Why was your friend in a NH.

Hi dhughes. Your profile says your friend is 27. Is she actually 72? I doubt that she couldn't get her mental health meds unless she was wanting more than was prescribed. Could you give us a little more information about your friend and why she was in an NH. People in NHs usually need care.

I think we all understand the fear of getting the corona virus. Where did she go? Does she have adequate care now and is she safer from the virus?
