How to get home care for dad when the skilled nursing home says he can only leave against medical advice?

Dad can’t walk on his own yet after 3 weeks in a rehab. They have just stopped visiting hours totally and we want to continue his care at home. We feel he would be taken better care of at home and we are now concerned that he will get worse since we are not allowed to visit at all for an undetermined time. The rehab refuses to help us and says if we take him it will be against medical advise and we would not be able to get the services or devices he needs for care. Is this true? What are our options?

Consult with his doc to change the order if at all possible. Everything is up in the air with the virus. The rehab may not want people to even come into the facility. I'm supposed to have a care conference today and wasn't even planning to go into my MIL's room but they said now it has to be a phone conference.

You may not be able to get devices, but IME, you do get services, if Doctor recommends.  We have had my mom home post-surgery and had PT, OT and nurse come to house (the PT/OT 3 times a week, the nurse once).   Some Medicare Advantage plans will now pay for an aid to come 2-3 times a week if parent cannot bath themselves, but as PP said, other than that you are on your own.

I can understand how his mental condition is a concern and you should talk to his DR.

I'd talk to his doctor. The doctor can order services to be provided at home for a certain amount of time.
I understand your concern and anxiety about not being able to visit him, but are you equipped to care for him at home? Medicare will not pay for caretakers.
