My Mom with dementia is refusing to take her medications. Any suggestions?

Blondie57, what is the reason she refuses to take them? I realize she may not have a rational reason...please be aware that many prescription meds say not to crush or break the pills as this affects the timing of its absorbency. Also they can be extremely bitter and no type of food covers up the taste. I found this out trying to crush meds for my young adult son after his tonsillectomy. Unbelievably bitter/horrid taste to some pills.

I have the same problem with my mom. She plays around with them. Sometimes she says she can't take them all at once. Sometimes she decides she doesn't like one particular med because she dislikes the prescribing dr. She refuses to go into AL and gets very aggressive when we try to persuade her. Now we just tell if she doesn't take her meds the dr. will insist she move to a living facility. So far so good.

Can you call the pharmacy and see if it comes in a patch? If it does, stick it on her somewhere she can't reach to get it off.
