What should I do when my husband (74) with Alz is fixated on leaving the country?
We returned 2 months ago from the Philippines. We had been there 3 times with intent on retiring there for good. Now that we are in USA, he wants to return again.
Your husband is obsessing. This is one of the most common symptoms of Alzheimer’s/dementia. You probably won’t be able to reason with him. You may need to use what we call the therapeutic fib. You know him best and you know what to say to him. “We’ll go back when we save up enough money.” “We’ll go when the doctor says it’s ok.” Make sure everyone in your family knows what fib you told him so no one “blows” your story.
