Where do I get help from volunteers?

I can't afford to pay for help around the house. I am disabled presently and need someone to put my king size bed frame together. It broke when the bed was moved. I have been asking around and no one has been able to help me.

Who moved it? And haven't those people got some nerve not putting the damage right, if they caused it?

If that's no good, would your disability be of the kind that could link you in with self-help groups or non-profit organisations in your area? They might be able to suggest resources, too.

If I were in your shoes, I would try to save up $20 and pay a strong neighbor to help me put the bed back together.

As for help around the house, I have no idea where one can get free help on an on-going basis. I know in some community, there are groups whose members help each other, but everyone has to contribute in order to receive help. Give and take basis. So, if you have some skills, or talent that can help someone else, perhaps, you can barter. I know there are barter posts on Craigslist. But you don't know who those people are, so be careful if you decide to go that route.

New in town, don't know my neighbors. Thanks for suggestion!

There is a 'men's shed' movement that may be active around your way. This is the sort of practical short-term job that those guys will take on. I'd stress the 'short term'.

You might consider joining a church or local support group of some sort. At a church, you could talk with the pastor or priest and there are usually people happy to do volunteer tasks for others. A small group from my church came over last weekend and did yard work. From behind all the overgrowth emerged my house. It looks and feels so much better!
