Why doesn't my mom remember the main caregiver in her life, her husband? He is with her 24 / 7 but she can't seem to remember who he is.

Cleve003, it must be so difficult and sad for your Dad, knowing his wife cannot remember who he is! My Grandmother was the same, she lived with us when I was a kid, and eventually she became way to much for my Mom to take care of her. I Hate Alzheimer's/Dementia!

Like my dad, she may reach the point to where she does not remember who she is. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease. :(

the part of her brain where husbands memories are stored has been damaged over time :(

When my Grandmother was living in an apartment, my Dad and Mom went over there 4-6 times a day to help Grandma get dressed in AM and undressed in PM, make meals and help her clean the apt.
Grandma would ask Dad, "What is your name?"
Dad would reply, "Jim."  Grandma would respond, "I have a son named Jim." (not realizing that she was talking to Jim.  Grandma would call Mom "the woman who gives me a bath" and did not recognize her as her daughter-in-law.  {Comment section FROZE for the FOURTH TIME with the FOURTH person--I can ADD but I can not edit!!}

People with dementia and Alzheimer's have problems recognizing familiar faces/people.  My Mom thinks that I am someone else and she thinks that my brother lives in this town and teaches at the high school.  He lives in another state and does not teach.
