My mother ripped her skin so bad today. Any advice on preventing skin tears?

Cwillie, thanks for your concern. My dad was with her. He said he didnt see it happen. I came shortly after. And i called the nurse right away. And she came over shortly after. I was hoping maybe someone had a solution that worked for them that they could maybe pass along. Thanks.

Thanks for saying its common in elderly. Ive been trying my hardest to be as gentle as possible with her. Her skin is like crepe paper. She was trying to take off the tubular elastic retention netting that has been putting on her to protect her arms and it got caught on something or she was pulling too hard and it caused a rip. It wasnt small either. This is almost a daily thing recently. She just bumps a wrong way and it rips. The nurse did come over the house right away but im worried about the times shes not here. I was hoping for a new solution to this skin ripping. Like a protectant of some sort. Thank you for the answers though. Weve tried so much and nothing seems to work.

This is a given in the elderly. All my husband did was pick up Moms legs to move them out of the way. His thumb left a skin tear. At the home they put arm protectors on Mom. It was like long gloves with the thumb and fingers cut out. The best you can do is get some steri strips. Try to get the skin to meet and use the strip to close.

We try to use paper tape as much as possible . You have to wet other adhesives to get them off.

Who was with her when it happened? That's the kind of thing hospice should deal with, did they or you call the nurse?
I'm not familiar with a mesh to prevent bruising but the adhesive is way too strong if removing it cause her skin to tear, most bandages used on delicate skin have a special low stick adhesive.
