NMsearcher Asked June 2018

My mother moved from a nursing home in IL to assisted living in NM. Why won't Pharmerica transfer her prescriptions to Walgreens?

They said I need to get the doctor to issue new prescriptions.

It would be easiest to have a local doctor write new scripts. She'll need a local doctor, and it would be good to have her seen by this new doctor earlier than later.

In some states a Medicaid patient needs to have prescriptions written by a doctor participating with Medicaid in their state. If Rx comes from another state, it may have trouble being filled in new state.

NMsearcher, I would just go ahead and get the prescriptions. Usually Assisted Living facilities use their own on-line pharmacy and the meds are delivered to the facility.
