How do I respond to a private message?

I can't seem to find how I can respond to a private message. All I see is "report" or "delete". How do I do it? If you knew my background, you'd know how embarrassed I am about not being able to figure it out. Sorry about putting it in this forum. I just couldn't find a "help with site" category.

Just click on the hyperlink of the person who sent you the message. You’ll see a place to leave them a message and a box that says private message. If you click the box (upper right hand above message box) your message will appear only for the person intended. If you want to include a hug you click on that link (on the bottom left under the message box) and you can choose a photo to go with your hug.
I’ve never seen any instructions. There may be, but I haven't noticed them.
