How do you deal with depression in the elderly?

I am a caregiver for an 81 year man. He is, depressed a lot due to his body and pain (needs knew surgery.) Thus will not happen until a wound heals on his back calf. We have been fighting this since the end of April. I am tired of saying good morning, only to get a response of "I just want to die. DIE ,DIE, DIE! How do you deal with this when he refuses a Psychologist?

My dad is the same. One pain after another. He always complaining wanting to die. I don’t know how to cheer him up anymore.

You don't need a psychologist. You need to talk to his regular doctor about antidepressant medication.

Getting him to a geriatric psychiatrist would be even better, but he'd probably refuse that.
