What insurance companies are the best for Medicare Supplemental insurance?

Our insurance costs are getting so high. Which companies are the best for Medicare Supplemental policies?

Mom's AARP United Health Medigap has a share cost. If Medicare leaves $20 Mom pays half of it. Check with your state, in NJ there was only three companies Mom could use. Some have $5000 deductables

Medsister, I've been quite happy with AARP Unitedhealth Care for supplemental and for pharmacy.

It is best to shop around as it depends on what benefits would fit your needs, and at what monthly cost.

Can you name some of the for-profit companies?

I got a BCBSM Medigap Plan C policy for each of us; it covers the 20% that Medicare doesn't pay.

Over several years, there have been only a few things Medicare didn't cover:

a. Medication costs from one particular hospital for an overnight observational stay. I challenged it b/c the hospital anesthesia team caused the need for the overnight stay and the drugs were marked up several multiples of their cost.

Eventually Medicare didn't even bother to respond to the appeal, and the hospital gave up. I would never go to that hospital again.

b. Things like boots, support stockings and minor "accessories", such as for foot injuries and edema treatment. as well as ointments for skin integrity issues.

Otherwise, we've had no problem with the Medigap C policy.

I would seriously NOT consider some of the profit companies' supplemental plans as I've read about situations here and elsewhere about their refusal to pay for some critical treatment.
