Is there a system that monitors elderly through phone calls?

cwillie Sep 2017
My mom used a monitored push button alert system (philips lifeline) for years and I'm pretty sure one of the options was a daily check in service, it can get pretty pricey though. Many elders have set up their own informal check in systems, my mom and aunt phoned each other daily and one of her friends had a neighbour who watched for her to open her drapes every morning.

Dear Diana,

I wonder if a care agency might offer this service. Or if family or friends would be willing to take turns calling. If not, maybe consider installing an alert system where the elder wears a necklace or wristwatch they can push for help.

Was poking around today, and those 'friend' and phone check-in programs were on our local council on aging web site.

Check with your local Meals on Wheels. I believe there's a 'friend' program here where there's a regular phone call. Plus, I think there's an option for a visitor -- at least I think I read that on their site. Or if using the Meals on Wheels service, the volunteer delivery person will check on them, tho I think it's just a quick visual when they answer the door & asking how they're doing.
