Are there any support groups for children who have lost a parent?

I have a 9-year-old greatgrandaughter who recently loss her mother to an overdose of heroine. Are there any support groups that are available to children?

Dear Jody,

My deepest sympathies and condolences. I'm very sorry for your loss. I know the pain and sorrow is deep. I would try talking to the school and see if they can suggest some resources. There are many resources for children in the community and through church. I find this website very helpful:

Churches often have grief support groups for children. You might Google it too to find one. Or individual therapy would help as well. A child psychologist deals in many things children.

Very sad and sorry for your loss.

How terribly sad. I'm so sorry.

after-death.com is a registry of bereavement support organisations helping people in all sorts of situations, including some which appear similar to your great-granddaughter's. I hope you will find it helpful.
