What can I do when the pharmacy keeps screwing up her meds?

We have bubble packs of gmils medicine mailed to us. So this morning I pop her pills out and there is 1 too many of her divalproex(spelling may b off)!!!! This is not the first time and before I talked to gmil rn(we stay in pretty close contact) and she made the call to the pharmacy but these meds are so very important ,she has seizures and this is one of the seizure meds I have about had enough I want to call and flip right now should I give these ppl another chance or just move to another pharmacy that offers the same convenient pack and delivery? To me this is not good practice especially when her life is at stake

the company definitely needs to be called to task. that is a given.

and there are 2 kinds of laxative - I gave my dad the wrong kind and when I learned, I apologized profusely - right in front of the doctor. he said it was a common mistake. dad didn't need a laxative, only the stool softener. so that is just one more place a mistake could be made.

with what we pay, mistakes should never be taken lying down. I have heard stories of hospitals screwing up too. in fact, I had to refuse medication that I knew my DH wasn't on - - - Stupid Hospital Doctor wouldn't listen and darn near dehydrated him all over again.

Anyway, I don't know about a lawyer or anything as people do make mistakes - but check it out first and decide what to do about it after the company gives you any logical reason.

It's not the first time however they had been giving her 2xs the amount of laxative before and on top she had a touch of the intestinal flu so.....yuk but I am like I said in constant contact with her Drs rn tht we caught it early plus she honestly don't need a lax I give her oatmeal and such daily but when they r screwing up often it says alot the lax is one thing but an antidepressant tht controls her seizures is another it just makes me so ticked as I watch the ppl tht get med assistance and they pick up a bottle or 2 of meds n she needs a team to get hers together n they screw it up smh I'ma bit intimidated by the amount of pills she takes and don't want to b the reason she don't get a correct dose so I depend on them

Yes an extra pill she takes 3 twice a day there was 4 in this particular pack n honestly I don't want to find out if it helps or hurts (like most of us) this is a new med since she has been my responsibility so that may be the ONLY reason I recognized the discrepancy

Leaving them could be a solution but trying to work with them sounds better to me too.
freqflyer is right - it could be a different manufacturer, hence a different pill. BUT you should have been advised with a note.

But you said, "an extra pill?"

If the pill looks different but the name on the pack is correct, it depends on who is the pharmaceutical manufacturer. Each manufacturer has their own way of making said pill as each has their own fillers, binders, coatings, and coloring/shape for the pills.

Only problem is it was the last dose in the pack and I'm hoping like h*ll it was the only one like that but I have been giving them to her for over a year and usually notice but they tend to fill them differently I think it depends on the person filling the packs because it isn't the pharmacist filling the packs. The pharmacist fills the bottles and someone else fills the packs it sucks too because she's been there so long I don't like making big changes to anything unless it's absolutely necessary

Pharmacies are usually very good at dispensing medication as prescribed, they have to be as people's lives depend on it. I would start by speaking directly with the pharmacist/owner, face to face blister packs in hand. Make an appointment so you are sure you will see the appropriate person. Since this has happened more than once I wonder if there could me a mix up with the actual prescription they have on file, be sure to go over that with them. They also need to know if they have a pharmacy tech who is not doing their job properly so they can take appropriate action.
