I have been trying to read about the lower diastolic number and wondering if I should be concerned?

jessie - you are right that the doctor may want to change his BP meds to raise his diastolic pressure.

Yes, thank you for the correction, Golden. I chose the wrong term. Pulse pressure is the right term.

Yes, Bella it is a reason for concern.
He has a high pulse pressure - the difference between the systolic and diastolic pressures which is 103 and can indicate heart problems.

jessie - I believe the stroke volume is obtained by subtracting end-systolic volume (ESV) from end-diastolic volume (EDV) which you cannot calculate from the blood pressure readings. You need measurements of ventricle volumes from an echocardiogram.

In any case, yes there is need for concern and a very good reason for your dad not to move into that cabin, but to stay where he is.

You need to have it checked again. If the diastolic is low again, talk to the doctor asap. Just like Jessiebelle said.

That is pretty low for the diastolic. The difference between the systolic and diastolic is high, meaning the stroke volume (106) of the heart is much higher than is good. Talk to the doctor about it. If he is on any blood pressure medicines, the doctor may want to change to see if he can get the diastolic pressure up. The systolic of 149 is not a concern at his age. Is his pulse rate also slow?
