Does anyone know why my mothers flaking skin looks like granulated sugar?

It is everywhere she sleeps or sits.

My mom is 89, celiac, in relatively good health with mild dementia and doesn't drink a normal amount of water.( She never has liked to drink water.) She weighs 83 pounds and is very inactive. I just find it curious as to the granular consistency. I think of the dust to dust comment but I wasn't thinking sand. I know this is silly to ask but I'm curious if anyone else notices this. Thank you

That's almost always the best idea, Patticake :) If you can, gather up a bit and pop it in a clean polythene bag. Yecch, I know, but it will really help if the GP wants to send it off to culture or anything. And if there isn't enough to sweep, press some clear sticky tape onto it and take that instead.

I looked at the different websites and none look like my mom's skin. Although her skin is thin due to age it is clear. I still will take her to a doctor.

Thank you so much for that input. I will schedule an appointment.

This is not a normal skin condition. She needs to see a licensed dermatologist.

I suspect Morgellon's disease, but there are a few other possibilities such as psoriasis or even scleroderma.
