Does Medicare notify VA of changes?

We are receiving Aid & Attendance for Mom and I am her fiduciary -- approved a year ago with the home interview back in April. Just 6 days ago, we decided to move Mom from home care to a board and care near us. We called Medicare two days ago to switch her type of plan that works better with the board and care scenario. Ironically, or maybe not, the VA rep left a message for me today that he wants to do another home visit with us and Mom! Husband believes Medicare notified him we have made some changes. Really not prepared to tell VA all the changes yet -- it hasn't even been a week. It's too soon for them to go to her board and care and we haven't decided about selling her condo. We'd like five minutes to breathe -- this three weeks has been hugely stressful getting everything set up. Cannot even believe the VA rep has called to set up another interview so soon. Is it just a coincidence or did Medicare somehow notify them something changed? I don't think anything else has been changed. We are thinking to just have the home visit the same as last time -- at our home. She has always spent part of her time here so that is normal (as we explained then). Lastly, how often should we expect the VA Rep to do home visits? Next time we'd be fine for them to visit board and care....but she's only been there about two minutes. We might just explain she is in for respite because we're looking for a new caregiver. Her last caregiver giving us such little notice forced this decision so it is actually true! The VA rep was a very very nice guy -- it's just our heads are still spinning right now and we weren't expecting to be put on the spot so quickly. We don't want to make mistakes either. Thanks!

I'm still not sure if the VA rep will already know if Mom is transferred to board and care? Medicare was only notified 72 hours ago that we wanted to modify her plan type. It really seems unwarranted that a rep should want to do a visit with anyone the very minute they have been placed into a new environment if indeed he has that data in his file. With dementia, as they are aware, everything is already confusing.

You're welcome. They would keep them "in the loop". so to speak, about what's going on with mom. for their records and also regarding paying out for what she may need. Yes ,SS and VA communicate with each other, Medicare I believe is also part of the mix. I hope things work out well with you regarding the interview.

What would SSI tell them? All we really said to them is we are changing her type of Medicare insurance. Not sure if they really wrote down that she is transferred to a board and care or not. Didn't realize SSI and VA computers were connected. Anyway, just have to be properly prepared before our next interview. Didn't really want to advise VA about board and care yet -- too soon in case they want to interview there. These 2-3 weeks have really been a blur! Thanks.

Yes. through her SSN. Unless there is another change, you should not see the VA Rep again, after this last interview, but be sure to ask him/her during the interview
