Who will take care of Mom after my surgery?

I may need surgery. I am her only caregiver. How can I take care of her as I recover. I may need 6 weeks for complete recovery. help

For the first week or so it might be better if she could go into the assisted living for respite care. Her doctor will have to facilitate this so it would be good to get that ball rolling early on. Home care aides to assist in bathing and meal prep and caregiving would be a great option. That would be private pay. Do you have family members who could pitch in? Depending on the severity of your surgery and your projected recovery time of six weeks, there might be a combination of options that would be the best solution. I would also look into a temporary housekeeper so that the dust bunnies don't drive you nuts.

Helpus, your best bet is to contact a caregiver Agency, explain what would be required of the caregivers, do an interview with them, and see if that would work out. As for the cost, your Mother should pay for this care.

If you live with your Mom, then maybe the caregiver could also help you during your recovery. It depends on how much care you mother needs.

You call her MD about placement for mom until you are recovered. If she is on Medicaid, call her caseworker.

You'll have to provide more information - what are your mother's physical and health limitations? Is she ambient? Or is she bedridden? Her age? Your age? Family close by? Church friends who can help?

Answers to these kinds of questions will help posters provide more targeted responses.
