How can I move my bed-ridden mother from Florida to Pennsylvania affordably?

She can not sit up, is very overweight and uses oxygen to sleep.

I agree with pamstegma. Don't do it. Especially if you are considering taking her into your own home. DON'T DO IT. Residency requirements could screw up her benefits. Consult an Elder Law Attorney perhaps. Initial consultation is often free.

Don't even attempt it. Her Medicaid ends when you leave Florida. So does Hospice services.

I'd first explore what other options there may be for her care and what if any financial consequences should be considered. Is she in her home, Nursing home, Assisted Living, hospital, etc. Is she self pay, have LTC insurance or Medicaid? There are so many things to consider.

Is this move for medical reasons? Would her doctor order the transfer? I don't know if Medicare would pay, if it's ordered by her doctor. I'll include a link below where this same issue was discussed on this site a few years ago. It might provide some info.

I'd also discuss it with her doctor. With her medical condition, I would think you would need professionals to accompany her. You might explore medical transport flights, that would be quicker, but, unless you can find a group to do it through a charity program, it might be expensive.

Maybe others here will have suggestions, but, with her oxygen issue and not being able to sit up....I don't know see how that would work for a long drive. Why can't see sit up?

Here's a link that might be helpful.
