Sundowners - mom never had dementia, but now acting like this?

Mom is in sub-acute rehab. On morphine and dilautin and lexapo and xanex.

Last two early evenings were awful with her saying she is going to die, hallucinating, etc...Doesn't remember this the next day.

Would appreciate your input on dealing with this.

Thanks.

Neither of my parents can/could take morphine once they got into their eighties (dads gone now) - even long before my mom had dementia, and my dad never did have dementia. It made both of them talk crazy and hallucinate.

How long has she been there? I ask because if she's only been there a short time she may just be confused because of the change in her environment.

What is she taking the morphine, dilaudid, and lexapro for?

If she's been there a while and these are symptoms out of the blue talk to the Dr. Your mom may be having a reaction to the medication she's on. Or it could be something totally different but since this is not your mom's normal state definitely talk to the Dr. about your concerns.
