Is forgetting more often a sign of dementia?

A family friend has become a whole lot more forgetful in the past six months. He is in his late eighties. But seems fine cognitively.

Forgetting can also be due to stress. Age can also be a factor as we all start becoming forgetful as we age :P

With all that was going on with my parents and now trying to empty out their house, the stress is HUGE on me, so I am finding myself being more issues with being forgetful.... my doctor said it was due to all the stress.

Could be meds. Could be TIA's. A good workup with a neurologist might be helpful in finding the cause.
