After removing memory challenged parents into assisted living,is it best to stay away for a couple of days?

We are thinking it is similar to dropping your child off to kindergarten. You wouldn't pop in every couple of hours as that would create more anxiety.

I just went through this and placed my mother in a memory care facility. I stayed away completely for 5 days, checking daily to see how she was adjusting. It worked out great! I was leary but the facility recommended we do it that way so I took their advise and was glad I did.

Bink60, you are right, it is similar to dropping your child off to kindergarten. Give your parents a couple of weeks to adjust. What is good is that your parents have each other.

Exactly right. But it won't hurt to call for an update from the nurses daily. Usual recommendation is allow 2 weeks for them to settle in.
