Do I need a POA to draw money out of my Mom's account in India?

My Mom was going to India with me but she is not well to travel.

Contact the bank in India and find out what authority they would need to see for you to be able to operate your mother's account on her behalf. If it's a global brand, like HSBC or something, you might be able to go to your nearest branch with your mother or with your POA documents and get it sorted out in person; but anyway do it before you travel.

I doubt you would be able to use a US POA at a bank in India. You may have to take mom to a bank here to have her funds transferred to open an account in her name.

Reading between the lines....your mother is from India and has a savings or checking account there. You're now going alone and want to withdraw funds from her account?

Are you listed on the account as a joint signatory? That as well as being named as attorney-in-fact in a DPOA would be options here in America. But unless someone is specifically familiar with Indian financial regulations, I think your best bet is contact the Indian bank or other institution at which your mother's account is held.

I'm curious though why you would want to withdraw funds from her account if she's not going with you. Do you need the money for yourself?
