My Mother-in-law is in a quality nursing home, but they lost both of her hearing aides. Are they responsible for them?

I don't know of any NH that takes responsibility for hearing aids. Even with nurses in attendance, patients misplace hearing aids, glasses and dentures. My MIL had someone else's glasses, no idea how she got them. Then she had the remote control for the lounge TV. They just set stuff down at dinner or recreation and someone else picks it up. Something as small as a hearing aid could leave on a lunch tray and never be seen again, or get wrapped in Kleenex and tucked in a robe. Then the Kleenex gets tossed. Poof!

Better have a look at her contract with the NH and see what it says about personal possessions and who's responsible for them. I sympathise. Mother was in post-stroke rehab for January, and every day I took her hearing aids in with me and brought them safely home again. Wouldn't let them out of my sight…

Is it going to be possible to get them replaced? Could you approach the company who supplied them and see if they can help? You never know, they might at least offer duplicates at some kind of discount, fingers crossed :/

I would think the nursing home would be responsible if the hearing aids are locked up at night. Was that the case each time one was lost?

Some seniors tend to wrap their hearing aids up in tissue and unfortunately the cleaning crew, not knowing the hearing aids at in the tissue because the hearing aids are so very light weight, they get tossed out.

Someone needs to invent a hearing aid that beeps when it is out of the ear, so if a wadded up tissue or handkerchief is beeping, one knows it is in there.... or if it is out of the ear, beeps if it is moved while in a tissue.
