Anyone have experience with person who has been in hospital 4 weeks, is over pneumonia, and won't eat?

What about PEG tube?
She is 92, almost 93, says she wants to live and get better but won't eat or drink enough. Alternatives are PEG tube or not. She had NG tube because had vascular procedure to open blood circulation in leg, then needed bronchoscopy to remove mucus plug from bronchial tube and is still draining some fluid from around her lung. Will talk to her about this, but this is so hard, I need someone besides doctors to talk to. What is your experience with this problem and PEG tubes?

Update....she wanted the peg tube and now is holding her own. She does take a few small bites of puréed food and thickened liquids.

Does the POA say anything about her desires related to extending her life by extraordinary means? Sometimes they do. Is there a living will?

I have my mom's health care POA. We never talked about tubes. She has mild cognitive impairment, early dementia. She ate half a skippy cup of a nutrition thing last night for me. She says she wants to live, and prays to God to help her get better. When I tell her she has to eat more, or get a tube in her stomach, or she will die, she will take a little but then refuses more. If I repeat, she will take more, but not enough to sustain her.

Skar, who has her POA? Is there a living will and DNR in place? Maybe have her evaluated by hospice. She has lived a long time. Is she competent? Did the vascular procedure impact her cognitive abilities?

If she is still of sound mind, the PEG tube is her choice. Ask her. If she has dementia, did she ever state her choices years ago when she had her wits about her? Personally I have already written no tube feeding in a Living Will.
