Does Nassau County have a telephone-friendly reassurance program that makes calls periodically to isolated seniors?

RSVP (retired senior volunteer program) sets people up with reassurance calls or you can volunteer to be the one that does the calling. Go to the RSVPsuffolk.org website or call 979-9490 ext 21. Tell them Dawn from Wisdom of the Aged told you to call!! Great program!!

Hi fellow Long Islanders. I'm in West Babylon and tried to find something like this for a neighbor of mine last week. I started with the office of the aging, and was passed around a few times, until I was finally told to call the non emergency police to have them check in on her. If you find something local, plz let me know. :)

You could also try Ed Mangano's office. They should be able to direct you further.

There's an organization called "Helping Hands for the Disabled." It was suggested for my mother with Alzheimers. This is a volunteer organization that will send someone to your elderly or disabled loved one's home to spend a couple of hours, do light chores, go out for a walk, or just be a companion. If they do this, I don't think they would mind also making a phone call. I know they serve new york city where my mom lived. If they don't serve Long Island, they should be able to refer you to someone who does. Google them.

I don't know of any government program that does that, but I do know some churches and other voluntary organizations will do this--check there first.
