My Mom is very confused. I bought first response test strips for UTI. Anyone else use this before?

She usually just forgets everything but she keeps talking about have three homes. I bought First Response test strips from Amazon. Trying to check for a uti. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this brand. I called them and it must have been after hours. Mom
Thougt we were in Mexico a week ago Monday when this started. Her pcp is an idiot

He made it sound like we should not come in to get tested for a uti. I am completely confused and extremely upset over this. All I wanted is a test that said yes or no to the Uti. If anyone can help me figure these out I would appreciate it. Thanks

You are wise to want testing for a uti. If Mom's doctor is an idiot, how about finding a geriatrician for a pcp?

Most increases in confusion and other dementia symptoms fall into three causes:

1) a drug reaction
2) an infection or other illness, with a uti being among the most notorious causes
3) the natural progression of the dementia disease

If the cause is #1 or #2, the person with dementia will probably return to his or her baseline when the problem is cleared up. (It may take a while, though.) If it is the dementia itself that is getting worse, then it is possible some relief can be found for the symptoms but returning to baseline is unlikely.

Do let us know how this works out for you. I sure hope it is something treatable.

At the ER, they can test for UTI and also prescribe the antibiotic necessary to cure it. Even if the test strip showed a positive, you'd still have to get the prescription.

Sure sounds like a UTI is a possibility. It's hard to get a clean "sample" at home.
