Does anyone have an elderly feeble parent who has become obsessed with "helping" them with everything?

My elderly dad who is somewhat feeble and very forgetful will at times almost attach himself to my side so he can be sure to "help" me with everything. At times he has shoved me or tried to yank things out of my hand so he can "help" me. I know it sounds crazy but I really resent all this "help." Sometimes he seems to think that I am my mom even when my mom is in the very same room with us. I am starting to not want to be around my dad. I love him dearly and I feel so guilty for my bad feelings toward him.

It part of not wanting to lose their feeling of worth. My mom is like that too. She will be 100 next week and still walking, doing some things for herself. She hates having anyone do anything for her unless she can help. Sadly, she doesn't know how to accept her age and frailness and relax. She took care of us, now we need to help her, but she resents it. Last week I felt bad after I told her she had to sit down while I was making her bed because I don't want to turn around and knock her over. Her balance is very bad and she has a habit of getting underfoot . She doesn't want anyone to wait on her, but it is nothing new - she's been that way for years, just won't sit still.

He is obsessive with poor impulse control and this can be medicated. Share your thoughts and experiences with his MD.
