What can I do to stop my husband (88) from picking at scabs, bumps etc on his face and head?

It took me 1/2 hour to stop the bleeding this morning. He has had numerous cancers.

Yes, he has had dementia for 5? years. Seems like forever though. Physically he does fairly well - but no memory. We really are fortunate that he sleeps so much - sometimes 18 plus hours a day. Compared to so many folks on this site, my problems are minor. Thanks to all.

You're not being argumentative at all! Hope the mittens work!!

You didn't mention if he had a diagnosis of dementia? Actually, the mittens idea isn't bad otherwise your are going to have to be hypervigilant in watching him.

I don't want to be argumentative- but he already has antidepressants- and we finally have his meds working well. I am looking for a behavioral remedy I guess. But no new meds. I'm hoping that he'll remember the mess this morning - but sure can't count on that! Thanks

Might his docs consider an antidepressant or a med for OCD? This may be worth exploring.

He sees his derm. every three months and has no itching at all - just the need to get after scabs, bumps etc. Mittens? Thanks for responding.

You get him to a good dermatologist who can prescribe something for the itching and biopsy any suspicious bumps.
