My Mom lives with me and has developed terrible bedsores and is in pain. What's next?

She is bedridden & catatonic. She has no PRP.(She lived in Florida until a short time ago, when she moved in with me and the disabled lady I care for. One day she got some bad news & the next day she was catatonic. That was almost a year ago. I have been taking care of her myself, but now I need help. I am interested in finding palliative care for her. I have been trying to get a doctor to visit us at home, but it's not possible, since we are too far away from any traveling doctor. She needs evaluation by a doctor. As soon as I can find someone to stay with my disabled friend, I will get her to the hospital. I have a power of attorney for her, but that's it. Can someone please walk me through what might happen once I get her to the hospital? Thank you.

I'm with Pam. Call 911. How would you ever get her to the hospital yourself if she is catatonic?

Once at the hospital they'll run tests, tend to the pressure ulcers, and wait for a bed to open up for her and admit her. Don't take her home if she's going to be discharged, just refuse. As Pam said a hospital social worker will be called in and other living arrangements for your mom will be made where she'll get 24-hour care which is what she needs.

Call 911 and get her to the ER and flat out refuse to take her back. If she is catatonic, I just don't see how you kept her alive for a year. Amazing!
If they suggest Hospice, fine, let them find a proper facility and REFUSE to take her back. Hospitals have social workers, and they can get a court order a lot faster and cheaper than you can.
