MIL complaining her arms and legs get cold but the house is hot. Should I be worried?

My MIL is 62 years old 140lbs and 5'2 in height.

She is epileptic, diabetic and has the early signs of Dementia.

It has been warm outside lately, in the low 90s and upper 80s.

The house has been warm as well, I let her control the temperature to a reasonable amount.

She has been complaining that her upper arms and lower legs get cold but envy thing else is toasty. I am wondering if it is the Diabetes?

We go on at least 1 walk a day and she gets up and walks around a bit once an hour.

I try to get her to stretch more for better circulation but she doesn't like to.

Should I be worried?

Your welcome! Our 87 year old also gets cold because she is/gets nervous, she was put on Sertraline, about three years ago, a small dose of 25 mgs. It is always good to talk with the doctor, her OCD's have taken over her life, but the cold feeling is almost never there, now.

A few weeks ago the prescription was changed to 2X 25 mgs one in the AM/PM.

Yes it would be, but all signs point to...

OCD's are a part of the many of the behaviors in dementia,
I am wondering if high level autism also exists,
that OCD's manipulate and the person in not able to adapt,
but complains instead of finding comfort and of course we can not figure what's wrong and this is the hook that begins caregiving, why is she not asking to go to the doctor...that would be my clue that something is up with the brain.

This is VERY typical of hypothyroid along with the dementia! She also could have low hemoglobin or low red blood count. She should have a physical including a complete thyroid panel and test her for anemia. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it were one of these rather than dementia!

Very possible that it is diabetic neuropathy. Call the MD on Monday morning. If the extremities also feel cold to you and are pale or blue, get her to the ER.

I agree with Iwentanon, about getting enough water and the type of clothes she wears. Try those first. You should bring this up to her Dr if it still continues. Good luck

Does she get enough water?
62 isn't that old does she wear sweaters or socks?
Our 87 year old wore nylons which are not very warm
and the elastic poly pants with sheer blouses and always complained of being cold, she doesn't anymore, because she does not wear these clothes anymore.
