Is there a good lift for getting parent out of bed?

My mother has late stage alzheimers and has fallen while I'm on respite. She was at a nursing home. Now having trouble lifting her from bed to wheelchair to toilet and to lift chair.

Good luck to you and I hope everything works out with your mother at your house. Lifting her is scary and a huge safety risk for both of you. Hoyering someone is also a risk and a person loses muscle tone once they are being slinged around. Is she able to "help herself" at all if she had good assistive devices available? Better for her and you. If you want suggestions please let me know.

Look through your local newspaper ads to buy medical equipment like a lift. Also, contact your local medical supply pharmacy to get one through Medicare. You will need a doctor's order to be approved. You may have to pay a small amount each month and after about 13 months the equipment will be yours.

Don't know if this may be helpful. but try looking online for Specialty Medical Supply. They have patient lifts and slings.

My husband is using a Hoyer Lift at a Residential Board and Care. Medicare is paying for the rental fee as it was a physician requested device. U-Tube has many informative videos on the subject to watch. In nursing homes, 2 aides are required to Hoyer lift a patient, but one is all that is necessary under most circumstances.

Are there any sources for used equipment ?

Talk to her MD about getting an order for a Hoyer lift, if he thinks you are able to operate one.
