Should I continue to receive my husband's check from VA after he died?

My husband, a vet, died from pacreatic cancer in 2007, he was receiving a check from the VA for diabetes metallis. His check stopped when he died. should i be able to draw this money also? I am however drawing spousal social security since I turned 60 lat yr.

My husband was a USAF vet who had a 100% service connected disability. When he was alive his pension came from VA because it amounted to more than his USAF pension. When he was medically retired from the Air Force, he put in place a survivors benefit for me which amounted to a percentage of his retirement benefit. At his death, I began receiving the survivors benefit from the Air Force. However, the VA benefit stopped.

I doubt it. My dad was on an Air Force pension and when he died, his pension stopped and my mom didn't get any more from it. But I'm not 100% sure if that's the norm or not.

Here's a fact sheet from the VA: http://www.benefits.va.gov/BENEFITS/factsheets/survivors/Survivorspension.pdf There's a phone number at the bottom to call if you think you are eligible for benefits.

I think he would have had to designate survivor benefits for you. Contact your local Veteran's assistance office to find out how to go about finding out if you are entitled. Let us know wha you find out since others may need this info thanks!
